My Life of Crime

Alexia Banks is the author of the critically acclaimed paranormal romance Forgotten Dreams. She is currently published by Adams Media / Crimson Romance.

First and foremost, I am a thief. I have made a career of stealing from others. I have carefully and methodically examined those around me in order to whisk away the very best bits of their lives. I have listened with interest to the way they speak, what motivates them, makes them angry, frustrated, happy and most importantly of all -- tick.

I twist and turn them inside-out as I mend their broken hearts, only to shatter them once again. I show no mercy as I place them in emotional and physical jeopardy until they bend to my will -- take their rightful place in my story. They are my characters.

In the end, their struggles, pain and pleasure are reflected in a long string of broken symbols of black ink on white paper, or images burned onto videotape and celluloid for the world to see. Yes, I have made a career of stealing riveting slices of human experience from others, for I am a writer.

As such, my professional journey has taken me far and wide. It took me into movie-making as producer of the ABC movie-of-the-week, Sudden Terror, writing, producing and directing of two independent films, producing and writing of the feature length documentary Rock and a Hard Place: Another Night at the Agora, and into development of a reality series for a major cable network. I have learned a great many things over the course of my nineteen-year career, and in 2011, was finally ready to try my hand at being a novelist. It is this achievement for which I am most proud.

My own life has frequently been a long distance marathon, presenting me with as many twists and turns as my characters. One thing, however, is unchanged - my drive to tell a story. It seems there is always an idea rattling around in my head. No matter where I go, or what I am doing, I see a story in everything. My paranormal romance series Forgotten Dreams and Frankie on the Rocks, and my third book Just Deserts are three such examples. I hope you enjoy reading them half as much as I enjoyed writing them.

In addition to writing romance novels under the name of Alexia Banks, my non-fiction crime thriller will be published by Rowman & Littlefield in 2013, under the name of Diane Jacques.
